We interviewed candidates and graded them on a predetermined rubric to assess their alignment with our policy priorities and their capacity to run a successful campaign. Those who received high enough scores were put to a vote of our members for approval.
An endorsement indicates that they scored 70 or higher and accepted. A recommendation indicates one of these options:
- Scored between 50-70 and is the highest-scoring candidate evaluated
- Scored over 70 but has not accepted an endorsement
Endorsements:
Ward 1, Orléans East-Cumberland – Bob Bell
Ward 17, Capital – Shawn Menard
Recommendations:
Mayor – Jeff Leiper
Ward 2, Orléans West-Innes – Jenna Jessop
Ward 6, Stittsville – Kevin Hua
Ward 7, Bay – Theresa Kavanagh
Ward 8, College – Laine Johnson
Ward 10, Gloucester-Southgate – Jessica Bradley
Ward 11, Beacon Hill-Cyrville – Cathryne Milburn
Ward 13, Rideau-Rockcliffe – Rawlson King
Ward 14, Somerset – Ariel Troster
If you don’t see your ward in the list, there are a few possible reasons:
- No candidate for a given race surpassed our minimum criteria
- Horizon Ottawa members did not approve any recommendations
- Our committee only evaluated incumbents and those challengers who agreed to an interview
