The derailment that occurred Sunday September 19 2021 is the second since August, and as a result the tracks that cost taxpayers more than $2 billion will be empty for at least three weeks, a service disruption that will only continue to erode the little trust that remains in OC Transpo, RTG, and the Transit Services Board. What’s more, the train travelled over 400 metres after derailing, including through a busy station and over a rail bridge. What was presented to the Transit Commission as a simple mechanical failure could have easily become a horrific accident.
