Job Posting - Communications and Media Coordinator

Position Description

Horizon Ottawa is hiring a part-time Communications and Media Coordinator (CMC) staring February 1st, 2025 for a three-month contract with possibility of extension. The CMC’s role will be to work with the Coordinator, Board and membership to deliver an effective communications strategy as well as producing content such as press releases, social media posts and graphics. 

The ideal candidate has previous experience with community/political organizing work, as well as some knowledge and understanding of Ottawa municipal politics and social movements. They will be able to work independently and problem-solve effectively. The ideal candidate will also have creative ideas of how to drive action and engagement around our campaigns.

Responsibilities:

  • Write,  create, and schedule engaging social media content and managing Horizon Ottawa’s social media accounts including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram 
  • Drafting outreach content including press releases and e-mails
  • Other duties as assigned, including but not limited to other copy and content creation, assisting with  outreach, mobilization and engagement.

Required Skills:

  • Some understanding and knowledge of Ottawa municipal affairs and City Hall politics
  • Previous experience in communications and content creation, ideally within a political or community outreach context
  • Ability to work independently
  • Be available to work evenings and weekends
  • Experience with managing social media accounts and live-tweeting
  • A positive attitude, and a commitment to social justice 

Assets:

  • Knowledge of CRMs like Nationbuilder
  • Knowledge of Facebook Business Suite 
  • Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite or other graphic design software
  • Bilingualism (English and French)

Compensation will be hourly at $21/hour for an average of 20 hours a week. This is a contract that begins as soon as possible and ends in May.
